Magritte painted at least a dozen pictures of apples wearing masks. He was fond of this theme and was often asked to paint it. He created his first version of an apple in a mask for the cover of View magazine in 1946. Later, his apples sometimes appear as singletons, sometimes in pairs, sometimes under a daytime sky with the title La Valse hesitation (The Hesitation Waltz), and sometimes under a night sky, in which case they bear the title Le Pretre marie (The Married Priest).A fragile species, mentioned in ancient Chinese texts 3000 years ago, the panda reigns majestically over Han Meilin’s artistic repertoireIn 2019, the savoir-faire of Lalique’s artisans, enabled him to fashion two of his beasts in pure crystal. Offered as diplomatic gifts in token of friendship since the Tang dynasty, the panda is the ultimate symbol of the bonds that link China and France.
